We are Alive in Christ…

Equipping, encouraging, and serving others to grow the family of God in the one true faith.

‍

IN PREPARATION

FOR COMMUNION

In the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, we receive the true Body and Blood of Jesus in, with and under the consecrated elements of bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus said:  This is My Body…this is My Blood…for the forgiveness of sins.  Believing these words and trusting in His promise, please consider these words of Jesus in your self-examination before communing.  We ask that any who are not yet instructed, are in doubt, or who hold a confession different from the congregations of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, to refrain from receiving the Sacrament at this time.  Each person may come forward for a blessing with hands folded as an indication to the pastor that they wish to receive a blessing. If you have any questions regarding the reception of Holy Communion, please speak to our pastor before the service.  Gluten-free wafers and/or grape juice are available.  Please signify by lifting your pointer finger when elements are presented.

‍

ORDER OF WORSHIP

‍

Psalm 37:7-11

7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! 8  Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.  9 For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.  10 In just a little while, the wicked will be no more; though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.  11 But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.

‍

744 Amazing Grace

1 Amazing grace—how sweet the sound—That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found, Was blind but now I see!

2 The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures.

3 Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come;
His grace has brought me safe thus far, His grace will lead me home.

4 Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail And mortal life shall cease,
Amazing grace shall then prevail In heaven’s joy and peace.

5 When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we’d first begun.

‍

Invocation:

P: In the name of the Father, the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen

‍

Confession and Absolution:

P:  Our help is in the name of the Lord,

C:  who made heaven and earth.

P:  I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord,

C:  and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

P:  O almighty God, merciful Father,

C:  I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess to God Almighty, before the whole company of heaven and to you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, that I have sinned in thought, word, and deed

and justly deserve God’s temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being.

P:  Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins.  As a called and ordained servant of Christ, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

C:  Amen

‍

Collect of the Day:

P:  O God, the protector of all who trust in You, have mercy on us that with You as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C:  Amen

‍

Old Testament Reading:  Isaiah 40:27-31

27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.  He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

‍

L: This is the Word of the Lord.

C: Thanks be to God.

‍

Epistle reading:  Ephesians 4:1-7

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.

‍

L: This is the Word of the Lord.

C: Thanks be to God.

‍

Gospel Reading:  Matthew 24:36-44 (Please Stand if you are able)

36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. 37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. 42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

‍

P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C: Praise to You, O Christ.

‍

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible

‍

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.  He suffered and was buried.  And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

‍

And I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son who with the Father and Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets.  And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.  Amen

Children’s Message

‍

727 On Eagles’ Wings

1 You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
Who abide in His shadow for life,
Say to the Lord: “My refuge,
My rock in whom I trust!”

And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His hand.

2 The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
And famine will bring you no fear;
Under His wings your refuge,
His faithfulness your shield.

And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His hand.

3 You need not fear the terror of the night,
Nor the arrow that flies by day;
Though thousands fall about you,
Near you it shall not come.

And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His hand.

4 For to His angels He’s given a command
To guard you in all of your ways;
Upon their hands they will bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His hand.

Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.   Amen

Post Communion Hymn:  Thank the Lord

Thank the Lord and sing His praise; tell everyone what He has done.  Let all who seek the Lord rejoice and proudly bear His name.  He recalls His promises and leads His people forth in joy with shouts of thanksgiving, Alleluia, alleluia.

‍

Post Communion Collect:

P:  Let us pray.  We give thanks to You, almighty God, that You have refreshed us through this salutary gift, and we implore You that of Your mercy You would strengthen us through the same in faith toward You and in fervent love toward one another; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen.

‍

Benediction

May the Lord bless you and keep you;

May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

May the Lord look upon you with His favor and give you peace!

‍

923 Almighty Father, Bless the Word

1 Almighty Father, bless the Word
Which through Your grace we now have heard.
Oh, may the precious seed take root,
Spring up, and bear abundant fruit!

‍

 2 We praise You for the means of grace
As homeward now our steps we trace.
Grant, Lord, that we who worshiped here
May all at last in heav’n appear.

3 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
